Adding and editing text using the Text tool

 Copy, paste, edit, resize text, and add artistic text effects using the text tool in Photoshop.

Adding and positioning text

1. Open a hotoo or Photoshop document (PSD).
2. Select the Text tool from the toolbar or simply press the "T" key to quickly select it. By default, the Horizontal Text Tool is selected , which allows you to add text in a horizontal plane. If you want to add text in a vertical plane, click the text tool again and select the Vertical Text tool from the context menu.
3. want to add a few words as a title ? Click anywhere on the canvas to enter text. In Photoshop, this is called short text.
Another type of text in Photoshop is paragraph text. As the name suggests, this type of text is used to enter a paragraph of text. To create a bounding box in which to enter a paragraph, hold down the mouse button and drag the cursor across the canvas.
This will hel you edit and align the paragraph efficiently later.

Note. When you create short or paragraph text, a text layer is auromatically created, which can be found in the Layers panel by the "T" icon.
 
The text tool is used to add or edit text in Photoshop on the desktop. The text layer is selected in the Layer panel.
4. enter you text. To save your changes, select from the options bar or press Esc - and you're done ! 
Note. 
- To change the font size and color, see change text size and change text color .
- Don't like the lorem ipsum text as you type ? You can turn off the use of sample text. Just go to Edit >Preferences>Text , uncheck the box labeled " Include placeholder text in new text layers," and click OK.

Selecting text 

 1. Open the photoshop document with the text you want to chang.
Note. The text must be on a text layer. Don't see text layers in your document ? See steps 2 and 3 in Adding Text.
2. To select all text or a paragraph on a text layer, select the move tool from the toolbar and double-click the text you want to select.
Note. If you can't do this,  you may not be using the latest version of Photoshop. In this case, select the Type tool from the toolbar, select the text you want, and then click Select > All in the menu bar.
 3. To select one or more characters on a text layer, simply select the Type tool from the toolbar, then hold down the mouse button and drag the cursor over the characters you want to select.
By selecting text; you can Make edits , change the font color , font size , copy and paste fragments , and perform other actions.

Editing text

1. Open the Photoshop document with the text you want to change.
Note. The text must be on a text layer. Don't see text layers in your document ?  see steps 2 and 3 in Adding Text .
2. Select the Text tool from the toolbar.
3. Select the text you want to edit.
4. At the top, in the options bar, you can choose to change the font, font size, font color, alignment, and text style. For more information, watch this Tutorial Video .

The text tool is selected and highlighted in thee Options bar.
You can also use The Character  and Paragraph  panels to further edit your text.
5. Finally, click on the options bar to save your changes.

Creating bulleted and numbered list

1. To create a text layer, select the horizental Type tool or the Vertical type tool from the toolbar .
2. Select a text layer or hover over a text frame to create a list .
3. To apply a list style, open the Properties panel > Bulleted and Numbered lists and click the Bulleted List or Numbered List button .
Alternatively, to aplly a list style, you can go to the Paragraph panel (Windows > Paragraph ) and click the Bulleted List or Numbered List button.
4. To continue a list in the next paragraph, move the insertion point to the end of thhe list and press Enter or Return .
5. When you create a sequence of items using keys such as 1, Photoshop activates the automatic list recognition the automatic list recognition function.  or 1) , or A. , or A) , after which you press the <space> key.
Yo can urn off automatic list recognition by turning off the option Preference < Text < Automatically recognize bulleted and numbered lists as you type .

setting up markers

You can creat custom markers using the keyboard as follows.
- * <space>
- # <space>
- > <space>
- + <space>

Formatting lists

To ùove to the next or previous indentation level, use the keyboard shortcuts "tab" or "shift" + " tab ", respectively.

Copy and past text

you can copy and paste text from other documents, such as a Word file, PDF, web page, or another PSD file, into a photoshop (PSD) document.

Copy and paste text from files of other formats (not PSD)

1. To select text in a non-Photoshop file, such as a Word file, PDF, or web page, hold down the mouse button and drag the cursor over the text you want to select.
2. Press command + C ( on a macOS computer )or Control + C (on a windows computer ) to copy the selected text.
3. Open thee Photoshop document (PSD) into which you want to paste the selected text, and thes select the Type tool from the Toolbar.
4. In the layers panel, select the text layer into which you want to paste the text. If you don't have a text layer or want to add a different text layer, see steps 2 and 3 in add text .
5. Choose Edit > paste or press Command + V ( on macOS) or Control + V (on Windows) to past the text. To undo the action, choose Edit > Undo Paste Text .

Copy and Paste from another Photoshop Document (PSD)

1.  Open the PSD document from which you want to copy text.
2. Select the text you want to copy and choose Edit > Copy , or simply press Command + C (on macOS) or Control + C ( on Windows ).
3. Open the PSD document you want to insert text into and select the text layer . If you don's have a text layer or want to add another text layer, see stps 2 and 3 in Add text .
4. Select Edit > Past to paste the text in the conter of the canvas. You can also select Edit > Paste Special > Paste in Place to paste the text exactly as it appeared in the original PSD file.

Change text size

Resize all text in a text layer

1. Open the Photoshop document with the text you want to change.

Note. The text must be in a text layer. Don't see text layers in your document ? see steps 2 and 3 in Adding Text .

2. Select the Move tool from the toolbar.

3. In the Options panel, do the following : 

(on macOS) Make sur Auto-select : Layer and Show Controls are selected.

(one Windows) Make sure the Layer check box is checked and the icon is selected.

4. To select the text you want to resize, click the mouse.

5. In the bounding box that appears, drag one of the anchor points to resize the text proportionally. You can also do the following whil dragging an anchor point :
- To resize text disproportionately, hold down the Shift key.
To keepthe center of the text in the same place while resinzing, hold down the Alt key.
- Hold down the Command (macOS) or Control (Windows) keys to experiment with different angles while resizing text.

6. Finally, click on the options bar to save your changes.

That's it ! The entire text has been resized

Change the size of one or more characters in a text layer

To change the size of specific letters, numbers, or words in your text, you can follow these steps.

1. Open the Pphotoshop document with the text you want to change.

Note. The text must be on a text layer. Don't see text layers in you document ? see steps 2 and 3 in Adding Text .

2. Select the Text tool from the toolbar.

3. Select the text you want to resize.

4. In the field on the Options panel, select the desired text size. Changes are displayed in real time.

Note. If you change the size of a paragraph and the text is not fully visible, drag the corners of the bounding box .

5. Click on the options bar and you're done ! To undo your changes, click on the options bar. 

You can change the size in two ways : using Move tool or by specifying a value for the text size in the Options bar.

Moving text

1. Open the Photoshop document with the text you want to change.

Note. The textmust be on a text layer. Don't see text layers in your document ? see steps 2 and 3 in Adding Text .

2. Select the text layer that contains the text you want to move.

3. Select the Move tool from the toolbar.

4. Make sur AZuto-Select Layer (on macOS) or Layer (on Windows) is selected in the toolbar, then select the text you want to move. A transform box with a dark arrow will then appear.

5. Click and drag the transform box, then release the mouse button over the location where you want to place the text.

Change text color

Change the color of all text

1. Open the Photoshop document with the text you want to change.

Note. The text must be on a text layer. Don't see text layers in your document ? See steps 2 and 3 in Adding Text .

2. Select the Text tool from the toolbar and select the text whose color you want to change. All text in the text layer will be selected.

3. Click the Color Picker (Text Color) icon in the options bar.

4. Move the color selections slider to the desired location. As you select different colors, changes to the text are displayed in real time.

5. Once you have selected the desired text color, click OK.

Change the color of one or more characters in the text

1. Open the Photoshop document with the text you want to change.

Note. The text must be on a text layer. Don't see text layers in your document ? See steps 2 and 3 in Adding Text .

2. Select the text tool from the toolbar.

3. To select the desired characters, hold down the mouse button and drag the cursor over them.

4. Click the Colot Picker (Text Color) icon in the Options bar.

5. Move the color selction slider the desired location. As you select different colors, changes to the text are displayed in real timee.

6. Once you have selected the desired text color, click the OK button.

Voila ! Done.

Alignment and justification of text

1. Open the Photoshop document with the text you want to change.

Note. The text must be on a text layer. Don't see text layers in your document ? See steps 2 and 3 in Adding text .

2. In the layers panel, select the text layer that contains the paragraph you want to justify. If you want to justify a specific paragraph in a text layer, select it.

Note. If you want to change one or more words (i.e. short text), you need to convert them to paragraph text so that you can justify them. To convert short text to paragraph text, select the text layer, and then choose Type > Convert to Block Text from the menu bar.

3. Choose Window > Paragraph to open the paragraph panel.

4. The Paragraph panel displays various justification options. Select an option to see the changes in real time.

The Paragraph panel display alignment, indentation, and spacing options for formatting text.

5. Once you've set the Justification option, click on the options bar and you're done !

Rotate text

1. Open the Photoshop document with the text you want to change.
Note. The text must be on a text layer. Don't see text layers in your document ? See steps 2 and 3 in Adding Text .
2. Select the Most tool from the toolbar.
3. In the Option panel, do the following : 
(on Windows) Make sure the Layer check box is checked and the icon is selected.
4.  Select the text you want to rotate. A transformation box will then appear around the text.
5. Move your mouse pointer over the corners of the transform frame. The mouse pointer will change to a double-headed arrow.
6. To rotater the text as desired, hold down the mouse button and drag the curved arrow. You can also set values in the  Option bar to provide more precise rotation.
7. Click on the options bar and you're done !
